9 Easy Steps to Clearing Heavy Energy from Your Space!

It can be immensely uncomfortable, as a sensitive person, to have picked up someone else’s energy and be carrying it around - whether it was intentional or not!

People unknowingly chuck their energy around all the time, and for those of us that are sensitive or empathic, it’s easy to pick it up or match it, and let it rattle around in your space!

If you’ve ever felt heavy, weighed down, sad, uncomfortable, buzzy, agitated, or can’t stop thinking about someone or something - and haven’t known where it was coming from - this quick guide is for you!


These recommendations and ideas may seem “weird” if you haven’t tried them before, but I invite you to give them a go!

And if it doesn’t seem to “work” the first time, that’s okay! These tools typically take practice before you can get comfortable and confident enough to knock it out of the park on the first go. If it takes a couple tries, know that’s completely normal, and feel free to adjust the process wherever needed to better suit what feels good for you!


This process is great for clearing your personal space around your body (aura), or in any of the spaces you inhabit or work in.


Remember, intention is the most important part of this work! It’s a-okay if you feel silly, unsure, or that you don’t know what you’re doing. Your intention and focus is really what makes this process work!


Let’s dig in!


1.Declare your authority in your space.


Again, this one might feel funny if you haven’t done it before, and a little obvious. But typically foreign energy or heavy energy from others can only exist in our space when we give our authority or seniority away, consciously or unconsciously!


And the first rule of energy work?


You always have authority and seniority in your space!


So declare it, however you like. In your mind, or out loud.

I personally like stating it out loud, as there are studies that the vibrations of sound from our own voice can be very healing for our bodies, PLUS.

I enjoy telling energy what to do. LOL


Here are some ideas to get you started:


“I now declare my authority in this space.”

“I claim my authority in my space.”

“I decree my seniority and my right to my personal space.” 

“This is my bloody space. And I own my authority in it.”


Etc.


2. Ask, “Is this Mine?”


The reason I like declaring authority in my space first is to establish that I know what “me” feels like, and that can make distinguishing between different energies clearer.


So ask this question, and notice the response.

Is it yours?

Is it not?


If not, notice that it isn’t yours, and own that it isn't yours. You can also declare that the energy isn’t yours, like in the last step, if you also like declaring things aloud. 


Ex) “This isn’t mine!”


Even if you're not sure, you can still declare it isn't yours!


3. Give the energy permission to exist.


By not resisting it, or making it “bad” or “wrong”, and giving it permission to exist, we don’t create tension by pushing against it which allows it to release more easily.


This doesn’t mean that we’re keeping it, but it’s allowed to exist the same that we are!


4. Have compassion, or forgiveness for whoever was involved in this energy


Typically, people chucking their energy around, or us forgetting our own authority, isn’t malicious. So have some compassion for yourself and the other party involved! Forgive yourself, forgive the other person, have some compassion and amusement if possible! 


It happens to the best of us. :)



5. Give the energy somewhere to go


We’ll be clearing or releasing it in the next couple steps, but I always like having a place for the energy to go to!


Kinda like, “You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here!”


I create a grounding cord from the centre of the room (or centre of my personal space), reaching down to the centre of the Earth so the energy can release there. You can also imagine a waterfall releasing to the centre of the Earth, or flowing into the Ocean, or a portal somewhere in the space that it can flow into.


If you really want to keep it simple, an open window or door works just fine!


6. Invite in support (Optional)


As a witchy-poo, I like drawing a circle and opening sacred space, calling in Guides, Angels, Spirit Team, Directions, Elements, etc. if I’m doing a large clearing. Having crystals, gems, flowers, or stones you feel connected to can also be supportive.

If any of that feels good or interesting, give it a go!


For everyday clearings, large clearings, and clearing my personal space, I always use a candle, or incense or smoke medicine like Palo Santo or cedar. Plant medicine sprays can also be used to great effect if smoke isn’t your thing or your space doesn’t allow for it!


It’s truly about whatever feels supportive and connected for you.


Always be sure to thank the support you’ve called on after the clearing! Whether it’s energetic, spiritual, smoke, plant medicine, or sprays - make sure you show it some appreciation and love with a bit of gratitude at the end! :)


7. Clear the energy from your space


Visualize, imagine, or intend that the energy is leaving your personal or physical space, and exiting via the “window” or grounding you created in a previous step. I like having the smoke medicine handy to gesture and wave in the direction I want the energy to go. 

Declaring that the energy is leaving your space can also be helpful if that feels good to you, and give it permission to release from your space. 


Give yourself permission to let it go - it’s okay that you don’t need to carry it or hold onto it any longer. 


If the energy is a bit “sticky”, or there’s resistance, keep with it!

Hold onto the visualization or intention and declare your seniority and authority in the space as much as you need to!


It is your space, after all! ;)


8. Fill your space with Light


After clearing this energy, we’ve now got some open space!


Nature loves a void, and we don’t need that energy coming back or filling with something else, so it’s important to fill our space with what we do want!


Visualize, imagine or intend your space filling up with bright white light. (Golden, or iridescent pearly rainbow light also works great! Use whatever colour or combo feels right for you!)

Seeping into your cells and aura, or all of your belongings and physical space. Full of this beautiful, nourishing, healing light.


If light isn’t your thing, whispering your intention, a word, using a singing bowl or your own voice to fill the vibration of the space will also work beautifully! 


9. Declare it Complete


Well done! You did great! Now you can declare it complete. Out loud or in your head. Thank your support, thank yourself, thank your space - we could all generally use a little more appreciation!


Your clearing is now complete! :)
